Greek coffee with Dimitrios

I have known Dimitrios for years. He had always been observing me while I would take my dogs for a walk, close to his house in the mountain area of Aegina. Often we would have a chat. Many years ago, I was at his house drinking Raki at 11 in the morning with a friend of mine. In the summer of 2018, he invited me over for a cup of coffee at his home and since then we catch up weekly or monthly when I am walking my dogs.

Shepperd Dimitrios is 77, he has been living at the same spot in the area called Psachni all of his life. He used to go to school by foot in Pachia Rachi. From his house he has an amazing view over Attica, the monastery of Agios Nektarios and the 3 little churches opposite. There used to be 9 small houses on his land, now he’s the only one living up there. He has sheep, several cats and a dog. He lives without regular electricity, he has a small solar panel used for some light. He listens to the news on the radio and owns a simple mobile phone.

Keep your spirit up
