Animal Protection
Aegina & Agistri

Text by Animal Protection as published on their flyer

ANIMAL PROTECTION AEGINA & AGISTRI is a registered non-profit Animal Welfare Charity based on the island of Aegina. A founding member of the Panhellenic Animal Welfare Federation, active in animal rescue, it feeds, inoculates, medically assists and neuters over 300 dogs and around 500 cats on the islands of Aegina and Agistri each year. IT REGULARLY OFFERS FREE NEUETERING PROGRAMS TO LOCAL PET OWNERS, thus reducing the number of animals that end up abandoned and get abused.

SHELTER
Their shelter houses about a hundred and twenty dogs, mainly puppies or injured animals in need of medical treatment, which would not be able to survive in the street. Built entirely with Greek and foreign private donations and administered without any State or Communal financial assistance, the shelter belongs in its entinety to the Charity. To cover the running expenses of the shelter they rely on membership fees, on the Circle of Friends, on donations and on money raised through different activities organized by the Charity, such as bazaars.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

BY ADOPTING A STRAY DOG
If you decide to adopt one of their strays, their adoption team will visit you at your home to make your acquaintance and make sure the animal you chose from their website is appropriate for you and suitable for your setting. They will provide all the necessary information regarding the animal and you will then sign an adoption contract. The animal you adopt will be healthy, fully inoculated, blood-tested, dewormed and micro-chipped.

BY FINANCIALLY SUPPORTING THE SHELTER
- Through MONEY DONATIONS at our charity bank account
- By 'virtually' adopting a sick or elderly animal for a year with €150 to cover its medical expenses
- By joining the 'Circle of Friends' of our Charity, with € 50 per year

BY SENDING MEDICINE
- Scalibor collars, Advocate, Advantix and Frontline pipettes & Drontal tablets

OR
- By donating clothing, and any small items to be sold at our bazaars

All of those can be sent to our their Information Centre (see information on the right of this page)

The Charity of Animal Protection has a continuous neutering programme for the strays of Aegina as well as for the animals whose owners cannot face the expense to neuter their animals as this is the only humane way to minimize the number of strays on the island. The solution of throwing the kittens and the puppies in carbage bins or in the sea is barbaric and no solution to the problem!
