A very traditional “meze” Taverna, Ippocampos (= sea horse) was established in 1989 by the Drossos Family. They offer traditional cooking with a personal touch and twist! Unique dishes are featured on the menu, some of which cannot be found anywhere else in Greece, others that are found in just one or two special places and of course there is a selection of the more established Greek favorites such as Fava, Tzatziki, Greek Salad, Souvlakis etc. But don’t expect the usual!
Unlike other Tavernas, where you go inside the kitchen to see the
dishes on offer, at Ippocampos the full range of the menu is brought
to you – on a large tray carried directly to your table!!!
Each night the selection may be slightly different, as “best
in the market” fresh ingredients are used depending on the
season. Whatever looks best when Petros is out shopping in the morning
appears cooked to perfection on your table, that evening! Each choice
is presented and described and you choose whatever tickles your tastebuds!
Once you visit Ippocampos, you will always return!!! The family service is personal and friendly. As well as enjoying the wonderful food many visitors to Ippocampos have become special friends. This Taverna is a firm favorite with locals, annual yacht charter guests & skippers on yachts (who visit every year) and other visitors to the beautiful Island of Aegina.
