Ammos - Marathonas Beach - Aegina island

Christian and Stella welcome you to Ammos which is their restaurant and cafe located at Marathonas. But Ammos it is much more than simply a taverna on the beach as you will discover for yourself when you visit.

Your first impression will be of its excellent location; it is set directly on Marathonas beach and you can sit less than 2 meters from the waters' edge. The swimming at this beach is the favourite of many with clear water gently shelving which makes it ideal for children. The uninterrupted views from Ammos are perfect; whilst sitting at your table you look out to the Peloponnese and the islands of Moni and Agistri. Indeed, probably the best position from which to admire the stunning sunset has to be at Ammos!

However, the location alone does not explain the popularity of Ammos. This is directly attributed to the hospitality of Christian and his staff which is second to none. Christian is French but has lived in Greece for over 20 years. At Ammos you will hear conversations between the staff and patrons in Greek, English, French, and Swedish.

Although Christian's smiling face is the one you are most likely to see the success of Ammos is also due to Stella and her cooking. Visitors will surely find something to tempt from the wide menu.  There is pizza and pasta for unadventurous children; Greek dishes including mezedes; an evening menu including meat dishes in rich sauces; and every day Stella has prepared her 'specials' which are always worth trying.

Apart from the perfect location, friendliness, and great menu at Ammos, Christian and Stella have sought to ensure that their customers can enjoy a relaxed and comfortable time at Ammos. The tables are located mostly under shade; sun-beds for lounging are free for patrons; a changing room with shower is located near the bar; and high-chairs for little children are available.

You can reach Ammos easily from Aegina Town. There is a main bus route which passes through Marathonas for Perdika.  Alternatively, a good way to spend a day is to rent a scooter or bicycle and ride to Ammos (it will only take you 20 minutes and the road is generally flat) to enjoy swimming and lunch.
